Because you can keep moving with something holding you back. Until you can’t.
Independent thinking and decision support for your business.
What that is isn’t obvious.
I help you work out what really needs working on — where the value is, what is getting in the way and what needs to happen next — before you spend more time and money solving the wrong problem.
This is independent thinking and decision support for you and your business or organisation. When you’re not sure what needs to happen, Achilles helps you work it out.
I’m Paul Manning.
In 2020, after 13 years in global management consulting, I bought a notebook and started with a heading: The Transformation Game.
What followed was a list of the questions I would ask if I had the opportunity to sit with a business leader wanting to move their business — local, national or global.
If I had 10 minutes of your time, what would I ask you?
Not tell you. Ask you.
In the years since, my experience grew again inside a small, high-impact technology business delivering leading solutions to really big businesses.
Achilles brings together what I have learned over 30 years about getting things done in business.
The questions I wrote then are still the questions I come back to now.
What is going on?
What are you actually trying to achieve — and why is that important?
You no doubt have things working well. Start with them. Then, what’s the most important thing that isn’t?
Would it help if we worked on that?
If that wasn’t a problem anymore, what would you hear, see and feel differently in your business?
Let’s start there. Tell me why that matters.
And that is really where Achilles starts.

An Achilles problem doesn’t always stop you straight away. You can compensate for it, work around it and keep going, hoping it improves.
But the signal is still there.
Businesses can be like that too. Something isn’t quite right. Growth slows. Costs creep. A project drags. Decisions get harder. People work around the same friction every day.
Achilles is about paying attention before the thing you can work around becomes the thing that stops you.
Bring me the question, the opportunity, the thing that isn’t moving, or simply the sense that something needs to happen.
Sometimes that leads to a conversation. Sometimes to deeper work. We’ll work out what is useful, what is involved and what a fair exchange looks like before we begin.
